State Bar Bestows Franck Award on Norman Tucker.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2002

The State Bar of Michigan at its annual meeting presented Norman D. Tucker with the Michael Franck Award. The award recognizes members who in the preceding year have made an outstanding contribution to the legal profession.

Tucker is the Immediate Past President of the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association (MTLA) and previous Michigan Governor and State Delegate to the American Trial Lawyers Association. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

Tucker, who specializes in medical malpractice cases, has been a frequent lecturer on trial practice. He has spoken on more than 50 occasions to different organizations, including the State Bar, the MTLA, the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, law schools, hospitals, and legislative committees, and throughout the U.S. on medical legal issues. He is the co-author of two texts for lawyers on handling obstetrical negligence cases and has repeatedly been listed in "The Best Lawyers in America."

This last year, as President of the Michigan Trial Lawyers, Tucker encouraged lawyers to worry less about their image and more about promoting respect for the law through education of the public. His concern has been that the public underestimates the importance of fair laws for all as the glue for our democracy and, consequently, public opinion is too easily manipulated by the few with money so the latter can gain special treatment in our legal system.

Tucker is a senior shareholder with the Southfield-based firm of Sommers, Schwartz, Silver & Schwartz, P.C. He lives in Brighton with his wife, Betty.
