Talk show host Leeza Gibbons Leeza Kim Gibbons (born March 26, 1957) is an American talk show host. Gibbons is the host of her own radio show, Leeza Live, part of the Westwood One radio syndication company.  and boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard Ray Charles Leonard (born May 17, 1956) is a retired American professional boxer. He was one of the leading boxers in the world in the late 1970s and 1980s, winning world titles at multiple weights and engaging in contests with such celebrated opponents as Wilfred Benitez, Thomas  led a record-breaking Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday, Nov. 14 at Griffith Park Griffith Park is a large public park at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is situated in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The celebrity national Walk to Cure Diabetes co-chairs were joined by more than 4,000 participants at the event, which raised close to $1 million.

Both Gibbons' and Leonard's own families have been touched by diabetes, as had the majority of the walkers who took part in the event.

 told the packed crowd. "Every year, we are getting closer and closer to finding a cure. Insulin is not a cure. Anything less than a cure isn't enough. Leonard told the walkers: "I've been in a lot of difficult fights, but this is one fight we can surely win. The key to being a champion is not what you do in the ring, or on the football field, but what you do outside of that arena. Together, we will find a cure."

The Walk's Youth Ambassador, nine-year-old Arianna Helfant, sped the walkers on their way, saying, "I'm sure that with all your help, we can find a cure."

The Walk to Cure Diabetes in Los Angeles is one of many such Walks sponsored by the JDF across the country, which bring more than 300,000 people and 5,000 corporations together for the events. Last year, the Walks raised a national total of more than $44 million. This year's events will reach $55 million for diabetes research.

November, the 16th Annual Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday helped to raise public consciousness about this pervasive disease, which affects an estimated 16 million Americans.
