Starlight Electronics Co. Ltd. is a manufacturer and marketer of high-quality, value-priced consumer electronics products to leading importers and retailers worldwide. The company selected Cirrus Logic's CS7410 processor in an effort to develop a state-of-the-art personal audio player at competitive price points for its U.S. customers.

The new Starlight device leverages the CS7410's high performance to offer almost a full day of compressed digital music per CD, in many cases allowing consumers to carry their entire music collection with them on one disc.

new and inexpensive designs that address growing consumer demand for compressed audio playback in portable audio players," said Philip Lau, chairman, Starlight Electronics Co. Ltd. "Cirrus' CS7410 has allowed Starlight to offer our customers a compelling and extremely cost-efficient device that helps us meet customer and consumer demands, while maintaining a competitive edge in worldwide marketplaces."

Cirrus' CS7410 music processor makes it inexpensive and simple for manufacturers to add compressed music playback capability to mainstream audio products. It offers manufacturers a rich feature set, a flexible architecture that supports CD-DA (Compact Disc-Digital Audio) The original compact disc format developed by Sony and Philips in the 1980s, which was designed for audio only. Since "CD" is used loosely for all Compact Disc formats, the CD-DA designation differentiates a music disc or player , MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) An audio compression method from Microsoft. Known originally as MSAudio, this proprietary format competes with the MP3 and AAC methods. WMA encodes rapidly and is known to be especially effective at low bit rates.  compression formats and low overall system costs due to its highly integrated design.

"Starlight has utilized Cirrus' latest compressed audio playback technology to produce an exciting and affordable MP3 player that helps consumers maximize the enjoyment of their digital music collections," said Terry Leeder, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Cirrus Logic.

The design win further establishes Cirrus as an early innovator in the CD-based MP3 player market - a rapidly growing digital entertainment category that is building marketplace momentum by creating convenient and inexpensive new ways for consumers to store, carry and enjoy many hours of their favorite digital music.

The CS7410 is optimized for CD-based audio systems, including portable CD players, boom boxes and bookshelf audio mini systems. It includes a 32-bit RISC RISC
