To better provide for a growing demand for prepaid data services, StarHub required a solution to support real-time control for the launch of GPRS-based services to its prepaid customer base. The deployment of the MSDS enables StarHub to make real-time charging of its prepaid data services, including charging based on data volume, time of day, and customers' roaming status.

The MSDS supports the innovative delivery of premium mobile data content, such as premium screensaver downloads and personalized call tones, to StarHub's new prepaid subscribers. For example, the solution allows StarHub to manage prepaid customers' access to WAP/Web services based on the real-time account balance of the prepaid subscriber.

Subscriber Services Switch -- Real-Time Control and Content Charging for Prepaid and Postpaid Subscribers

Megisto's MSDS is a subscriber services switch designed to link operator BSS with new data services from within the data plane of the network. The MSDS acts as a trusted delegate to an operator's BSS, providing dynamic control of subscriber sessions and real-time insight into content from a centralized point. The MSDS relieves operators of having to set policies across multiple network elements, enhancing their service control and charging flexibility, decreasing network complexity, and minimizing the chance of billing and charging errors.

The MSDS supports prepaid roaming, allowing operators to apply different rates and access control rules depending on the identity of the roaming partner.
