Starent Networks Introduces Intelligent Subscriber Access System for Mobile WiMAX.

Market-Leading Multimedia Core Platform to Enable ASN (1) (Autonomous System Number) A unique identifier of an autonomous system on the Internet. Of the 65 thousand ASNs available, more than 30 thousand have been assigned to ISPs and NSPs. ISPs usually have only one ASN, but NSPs may have more than one.  Gateway and HA Services

BOSTON -- Starent Networks, Corp., a global market leader in mobile packet core solutions, today announced its Access Service Network (ASN) Gateway and Home Agent (HA) solutions for mobile WiMAX See WiMAX and 802.16.  networks. The ASN Gateway and HA functions will be deployed on Starent's access independent ST16 Intelligent Mobile Gateway, enabling service continuity and uniformity across different radio access networks.

The ASN Gateway and HA solutions leverage Starent's market leadership and expertise in delivering access and mobility platforms for the mobile packet core network. Starent solutions have been adopted by more than 60 mobile operators in 25 countries for their 3G multimedia core networks.

"Designing solutions for mobile WiMAX packet core networks is a logical extension of our technology," said Ashraf Dahod, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Starent Networks. "We have the core competencies, market-proven product and advanced technology - such as Mobile IP-based subscriber management and inter-technology roaming, all on a fault-tolerant carrier class platform - delivering robust, high-performance solutions to operators deploying mobile broadband Description

 services."

The ASN Gateway is a subscriber access gateway for the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  802.16e mobile WiMAX network. It is the connection point between the access service and core connectivity service network that concentrates subscriber traffic from peer base transceiver stations (BTS BTS - Bug Tracking System ). Its primary responsibilities are providing mobility services to mobile IP-aware and simple IP user access devices and processing of subscriber control and bearer data traffic. The ASN Gateway connects to an HA, which acts as the anchoring point for a subscriber session as the subscriber moves through the network.

The Starent ST16 platform offers deployment flexibility by enabling both services to be integrated on the same chassis for lower operational expenditures or distributed on separate nodes in cases where mobility between different access technologies is desired.

Starent ST16 Intelligent Mobile Gateway

The Starent ST16 multimedia core platform is well suited to provision ASN Gateway and HA services. The system uniquely combines subscriber and network intelligence with high performance and carrier-class availability. As a result, the ST16 brings several key capabilities to the mobile WiMAX network, including:

* Session intelligence - providing Deep Packet Inspection Analyzing network traffic to discover the type of application that sent the data. In order to prioritize traffic or filter out unwanted data, deep packet inspection can differentiate data, such as video, audio, chat, voice over IP (VoIP), e-mail and Web.  (DPI (Dots Per Inch) The measurement of the resolution of display and printing systems. A typical CRT screen provides 96 dpi, which provides 9,216 dots per square inch (96x96). Flat panel displays from 110 to 200 dpi have also been developed. ) Technology, along with Service Steering offers mobile operators an unparalleled level of subscriber understanding and the ability to shape the subscriber session.

* Integrated services In computer networking, IntServ or integrated services is an architecture that specifies the elements to guarantee quality of service (QoS) on networks. IntServ can for example be used to allow video and sound to reach the receiver without interruption.  - Starent's In-line Services give the operator the ability to provision application aware services at the access gateway. These include, multi-flow QoS, Enhanced Charging Service (ECS See eComStation. ), content filtering, peer-to-peer detection/control and many others.

* Access independence - the power and flexibility of the platform provides an opportunity for deployment across multiple access technologies, such as Mobile WiMAX, 3G (CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. 2000 1X/1xEV-DO, W-CDMA/UMTS), WiFi, and wireline broadband on a common platform, promoting inter-access roaming. Additionally, the Starent implementation permits co-location of the ASN Gateway and HA functions on the same chassis. This flexibility provides subscribers a seamless service experience as they move between access networks.

* Carrier-class availability - the ST16's architecture features no single point of failure, both for hardware and software resources, and combines this with health monitoring that identifies and contains or corrects faults to minimize the impact of system faults. All system elements and processes have back up for fail over and recovery.

* High-performance - designed to achieve the highest levels of performance the system delivers a superior subscriber experience with no bottlenecks for service delivery.

Starent is a principal member of the Networking Work Group in the Mobile WiMAX Forum and has actively applied its expertise and leadership to shape the technical definitions surrounding mobility between Access Service Networks (ASN) and Connectivity Service Networks (CSN CSN Crosby, Stills, and Nash (band)
