A love story set in London chugs along from before WW II to the time when jazz supplanted the big band sound. Tess Trent and Max Bentley Maxwell Herbert Lloyd Bentley (born on March 1, 1920 in Delisle, Saskatchewan - January 19, 1984) was a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and New York Rangers in the National Hockey League.  fall in love and marriage appears to be the next step when Max decides to call it off and seek his musical fortune in America. They each marry someone else and have a child but neither forgets the other. Then, by a circuitous cir·cu·i·tous

route, they find each other again. There is lots of sexual tension but limited sex. Evans's writing is prosaic but Aldington's English-accented reading makes up for it somewhat by infusing the characters with warmth. For listeners who like long, low-key love stories; this one has more character development than action, as well as a happy ending. Edna M. Boardman, Bismark, ND
