Staples Retail and Delivery today announced that it donated more than $85,000 in school supplies to schools across the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  during the 1999 NFL season through the Staples NFL Coach of the Week program. As part of the program, 17 public and private elementary, middle and high schools each received a $5,000 Staples gift certificate and a school visit from their local NFL coach.

The Staples Coach of the Week program began five years ago with the cooperation of the National Football League (NFL) and CBS (Cell Broadcast Service) See cell broadcast. . Staples has donated more than $285,000 in school supplies through the program, allowing nearly 60 schools to benefit from this exciting community program and partnership with the NFL. Entry forms for the Staples NFL Coach of the Week program were available at all Staples retail stores or online at www.staples.com.

      Each week during the regular NFL season, members of the NFL Coaches Club choose a head coach whose leadership guided his team to the best performance that weekend. A winning school entry is then randomly selected from the geographic area of the NFL coach who is honored as the "Staples Coach of the Week."
