Key findings from Monitrak(R) include the following:
-- Overall CRT monitor shipments increased from 9.2 million units in 1Q00 to
9.7 million units in 2Q00, a 5% increase in shipment volume.

-- Unit shipments were 13.2% higher in 2Q00 than in 2Q99.

-- Dell continued to lead the market, shipping more than 1.6 million units in
2Q00. Compaq came in second with approximately 903,000 units, and Gateway and
Hewlett-Packard fought for third place with 828,000 units each.

-- Approximately 72.8% of all monitors shipped in 2Q00 had a street price below
$350, compared to 74.3% in 1Q00.


Highlights from Flat Panel Monitrak(R)include:

-- Total end-user sales in the U.S. flat panel monitor market

exceeded 297,283 units in 2Q00, a 21.9% increase from 2Q00

sales of 243,800.

-- The total value of U.S. flat panel monitor shipments in 2Q00

was approximately $436 million, a 13% increase over the 1Q00

value of $386 million.

-- The branded vendor leading in shipment value of flat panel

monitors in 2Q00 was NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

, with $73.9 million in sales (16.9%

of the total 2Q00 shipment value).

monitor in the U.S. market was $1,071 in 2Q00, a $48 decrease

from the 1Q00 average of $1,119. This average price slipped

below $1,000 in 3Q00, as recent panel cost declines were

passed along to end-users.
