Arthur Andersen LLP, based in Chicago, was once one of the "Big Five" accounting firms (the other four are PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Ernst & Young and KPMG), performing , where he rose to partnership in 1968, eventually becoming head of the firm's accounting principles group. The AICPA AICPA See American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). appointed him to AcSEC in 1973 and he was the committee's chairman from 1977 to 1979. After his 1992 retirement from Andersen, he returned to teaching at the University of Illinois. Daniel L.
