Standard presses now convertible to MuCell. (Keeping up with Injection Molding).

Trexel Inc., Woburn, Mass., has introduced a retrofittable injection unit that allows an existing injection machine to be converted at relatively low cost to microcellular foam molding by Trexel's MuCell process. Up to now, machines had to be converted off-site by lengthening lengthening (lengkˑ·the·ning),

their bases to accommodate a longer (28:1) screw and barrel. Also, machine controls needed to be modified or replaced to incorporate MuCell functions. Trexel is now offering a MuCell Modular Upgrade (MMU (Memory Management Unit) The part of the computer that governs memory access. Either part of the CPU chip or housed on separate chips, the MMU controls memory partitions and virtual memory. See memory and virtual memory.

"Until now, retrofitting for MuCell molding has been inhibited by high cost and long machine downtime The time during which a computer is not functioning due to hardware, operating system or application program failure. ," states Trexel v.p. Dan Szczurko. The new MMU consists of an injection unit with redesigned 22:1 screw that can be substituted directly for the existing injection unit. The MMU also includes a modified version of Trexel's gas-control unit (Series II SCF SCF Service Canadien des Forêts (Canadian Forest Service)
