), which accredits continuing care retirement communities and aging services continuums, has issued a risk-management standard focusing on five areas where providers tend to be especially vulnerable: human resources The fancy word for "people." The human resources department within an organization, years ago known as the "personnel department," manages the administrative aspects of the employees. , governing board, building and grounds, finance and quality in resident life. CCAC-accredited organizations will have to comply with the standard by December.

"Our goal is to help providers be proactive," Ann Gillespie, CCAC executive director, said in a release. "In addition to reducing risk, we hope this new standard will help providers in their efforts to renew or prevent increases in their liability insurance."

The standard, which is available in the Newsflash section of the CCAC Web site (www.ccaconline.org), lists required documents, including a risk-management plan, corporate compliance plan, document checklists and a concise summary of the organization's insurance coverage. Organizations are asked how well they are meeting the standard and what they can do to improve. A list of resources to help organizations comply with the CCAC risk-management standard is also available at the CCAC site.
