Stakeholders up the ante in downtown Brooklyn.


In an effort to accelerate the expansion of the city's third-largest business district, Downtown Brooklyn's key stakeholders Stakeholders

All parties that have an interest, financial or otherwise, in a firm-stockholders, creditors, bondholders, employees, customers, management, the community, and the government.
 this week launched the Downtown Brooklyn Coordinates:

Downtown Brooklyn is the third largest central business district in New York City (following Midtown Manhattan and Lower Manhattan), and is located in the
 Partnership.

The new organization will oversee the planning and implementation of Downtown's development and infrastructure projects, promote Downtown Brooklyn as a business location and manage the security and sanitation services provided by Downtown business improvement districts.

The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership will combine the resources and functions of four local economic development organizations: The Downtown Brooklyn Council, The BAM Bam (bäm), town (1996 pop. 70,100), Kerman prov., SE Iran, on the intermittent Bam River. Located on the western edge of the Dasht-e Lut, Bam is a trade center in a henna-growing region. Dates and other fruits are also grown; camels are raised.  Local Development Corporation, The MetroTech Business Improvement District and The Fulton Mall Fulton Mall is a pedestrian street mall in Downtown Brooklyn that runs on Fulton Street between Flatbush Avenue & Adams Street. Fulton Street Mall is home to over 230 stores [1]  Improvement Association.

The new entity, a not-for-profit local development corporation governed by a board of directors comprised of leaders from Downtown Brooklyn's corporate, real estate, academic and cultural communities, will be co-chaired by Robert Catell, chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of KeySpan Corporation, and Alan Fishman, president and COO of Sovereign Bank and chairman and CEO of the Metro New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 Market.

"The Downtown Brooklyn community has united to grow the area into one of America's great downtowns. This organization will allow the business, academic and cultural communities to partner even more closely with City government toward expanding Downtown Brooklyn as a center for jobs, higher learning higher learning

, entertainment and culture, and to transform the area into a 24 hour mixed-use community," said Catell.

Mayor Bloomberg commented, "The growth of Downtown Brooklyn is one of the Administration's highest priorities. We have committed over $300 million towards building new open space, improving area streetscapes and providing the critical infrastructure that will leverage billions of dollars of private investment.

"The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership will prove critical to ensuring that the community is involved in the process, and that these investments are made in ways that create jobs and new housing for families of all income levels, as well as enhance the local cultural and academic sectors."

The focus of the Partnership will be to enhance the area's position as a vibrant mixed-use community through the implementation of a series of redevelopment plans, including:

The Downtown Brooklyn Development Plan allows for the creation of millions of square feet of Class A office space; thousands of new apartments and additional retail space;

The BAM Cultural District, a plan to convert vacant and underutilized properties surrounding the Brooklyn Academy of Music Brooklyn Academy of Music, performing arts center located in the borough of Brooklyn, N.Y. and popularly known as BAM. Founded in 1859 and opened in 1861, it is the oldest such institution still in operation in the United States.  into affordable space for nonprofit visual, performing and media arts organizations, and provide, mixed-income housing;

New open spaces within the BAM and MetroTech areas;

Joe Chan will serve as president of the organization. Chan, who has served the Bloomberg administration as Senior Policy Advisory to Deputy Mayor Daniel Doctoroff, was selected to direct the Partnership based in part because of his in-depth knowledge of Brooklyn, having been a director of real estate for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and a director of a local development corporation for East New York. The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership will have a staff of 25 and be based at 15 MetroTech Center.
