Ultraviolet Awareness Month

While it may not seem like it with the current weather conditions, Bay Area residents will soon have the opportunity to be exposed to sunlight. The affected area, the macula, lies at the back of the retina and is the part that produces the sharpest vision. , and cancers around the eye.

Since everyone is at risk from sight-damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation, St. Mary's ophthalmologists stress the need to protect eyes by-wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses that block out 99 to 100 percent of both UV-A UV-A or UVA

The EMS personnel do so much to help us and to help the patients; this is one way we can show our appreciation."

St. Mary's Medical Center is also in its third year of promoting its unique QuickCare program, which guarantees patients are seen by a medical professional within 30 minutes of arrival at its Emergency Room.
