Molecular Imaging is contributing to a newer vision of medicine."

Jeffrey J. Plutchok, M.D., division chief of nuclear medicine at St. Joseph's, said, "PET scanning PET scanning

has become one of the most exciting and talked about technology in radiology and nuclear medicine circles. We are receiving more inquiries for PET scanning from referring physicians, patients and even insurance companies than ever before. Now that there are Medicare-approved indications, including evaluating patients with lung, colon, lymphoma, melanoma and hopefully soon selected head and neck cancer, physicians are more than ever seeking scans for their patients. After polling some our referrals that have used PET scanning we found that this technology changed their clinical management in 30 to 40 percent of the time. Thus, some patients were spared unnecessary surgery as well as in some situations benefited from aggressive surgery.

"Mobile PET will allow us to quickly provide this technology to our patients without significant outlay of expenses and will provide us with experienced technologists, physics support and aggressive marking. After meeting with multiple competing mobile PET companies, we found this company to be extremely responsive and accommodating to our institutional needs. More importantly, our hospital has the opportunity to assess the true demand for PET scanning after 'all the dust settles.' The competition for patients, indications for PET scanning, future reimbursements, competing non-nuclear developing technology, as well as developing hybrid imaging devices using simultaneous CAT scanning and PET scanning are all variables that will impact on when and what type of fixed imaging our hospital will need into the future."
