. St. Clare's is the second hospital in New Jersey to obtain a blood volume analyzer. Dr. Plutchok stated that accurate blood volume measurement has a potential for significantly improving the accuracy of diagnosing treatment in a number of conditions such as fainting, congestive heart failure congestive heart failure, inability of the heart to expel sufficient blood to keep pace with the metabolic demands of the body. In the healthy individual the heart can tolerate large increases of workload for a considerable length of time. , kidney disease, and blood loss.

Dr. Plutchok commented that "a recent study published in the American Journal of Cardiology has demonstrated that blood volume measurement can differentiate whether patients under treatment for congestive heart failure are being optimally treated to adjust their blood volume status. The study shows that patients with an undiagnosed expanded blood volume have a significantly higher death rate. We are particularly anxious to offer this advanced technology to physicians within our region."
