 and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries. Sri Lanka s membership comes amid a call by the country s permanent representative to the UN Dr. Palitha Kohona Dr. Palitha T.B. Kohona is the Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Sri Lanka and former Secretary-General of the Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP).  that sufficient initiatives must be provided to forest hosting countries to maintain them. Along with Sri Lanka the total membership of the programme has increased to 14. The programme was launched as a collaborative partnership between the food and agriculture organisation, the UN Environment Programme and the United Nations Development Programme. It was designed to help countries combat climate change by reducing deforestation and investing in sustainable development.
