Business/Technology Editors

NOORDWIJK, Netherlands & NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 2002

Square One bv and BlueMatrix Inc., today announced that wmf2vector will be used as the engine for web-delivery of financial research in PDF (Portable Document Format) The de facto standard for document publishing from Adobe. On the Web, there are countless brochures, data sheets, white papers and technical manuals in the PDF format.  and XML-standard Scalable Vector Graphics (graphics, World-Wide Web) Scalable Vector Graphics - A W3C standard for vector graphics, based on XML.

Introduced in 2001, SVG was designed to become the standard vector format just as GIFs and JPEGs have become the standard bitmaps for the Web. ) formats. Now, the native Windows display format, WMF, can be processed in batch mode to produce most industry-standard formats, including the newest Web vector format, SVG. This means that drawings and graphs as well as page content such as forms, tables, charts and data sheets can be easily produced in scalable formats for both Web and print publishing.

"These Web formats give our customers financial information that they can scale, zoom, pan and even do text searches on", said Skye Hauptman, co-founder and CTO (Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. See CIO and salary survey.  of BlueMatrix. "This new visual power, plus the strength of the underlying engine which generates the graphics on-the-fly, means we can bring more source research data into our system and deliver more added-value in what we return to our customers".

"WMF is the core display format of Windows" says Jeroen Dekker, product manager at Square One, "Developers now have a robust engine to produce and customize cross-platform publishing formats directly from any Windows application. We are glad to have partnered with BlueMatrix to offer this solution to their financial industry users, and look forward to enabling new data flows in other markets as well."

The financial industry is one of the pioneers in the use of vector formats on the Web. SVG brings the document and data interchange advantages of XML to the world of graphics. These high-quality, scalable graphics can be panned or zoomed for optimal display. In addition, they can be searched, indexed, and displayed in multiple languages. This is a significant visual benefit for the Web-site visitor as well as the answer to challenging design concerns such as internationalization The support for monetary values, time and date for countries around the world. It also embraces the use of native characters and symbols in the different alphabets. See localization, i18n, Unicode and IDN.
