(dba Portable On Demand Storage) has deployed Sprint's Advanced Wireless Solutions, a first-in-class, semi-custom approach for companies seeking business-critical mobility solutions. The deployment comprehensively leverages Sprint's unique program, introduced in August 2006, which is delivering tangible benefits to this and other businesses including measurable productivity gains, asset management, rapid return on invest and enhanced customer satisfaction.

PODS, the moving and storage company which revolutionized the concept of portable storage containers by offering a storage unit that is delivered and picked up from your front door when filled, recognized the need for accurate and timely tracking of its assets. They selected Sprint Advanced Wireless Solutions for a real-time, wireless, proof-of-delivery system that allows them to track more than 110,000 containers and 1,000 drivers.

This comprehensive solution combines Sprint-enabled devices from Motorola Inc. (Symbol MC9097), a GPS receiver, vehicle cradle to secure the device for safety and charging, and a PODS-designed custom application bundled together to offer many valuable tools for PODS customer delivery and warehouse services. This includes:

* Asset tracking with barcode scanning,

* Fleet Management with GPS tracking See vehicle tracking.  and Vehicle Inspection,

* Access to Customer Information to assist drivers when containers are picked up or dropped off,

* GPS with voice navigation Using voice recognition to select options from a menu.  for precise delivery, and

* Customer signature capturing for contract acknowledgement.

To facilitate asset tracking, each PODS brand container has a barcode inventory number attached. Using Sprint-enabled devices, along with software, a handheld computer A computing device that can be easily held in one hand while the other hand is used to operate it. See Palm, smartphone and palmtop.  with Nextel National Network wireless capability, barcode scanning, image capturing, and a GPS receiver, the driver can accomplish several key tasks using voice-enabled driving directions. The driver receives a wireless dispatch, scans a PODS brand container barcode, loads the container on the truck, gets turn-by-turn voice directions to the delivery location, places the container in its location, and as necessary take a picture of the container to ensure no damage has been done.
