Spring has sprung: early childhood.Significant Problem The exotic jungle scenes of Henri Rousseau can be an inspiration for students to create their own mixed-media compositions. Materials 18 x 24" (46 x 61 cm) white paper, tempera tempera (tĕm`pərə), painting method in which finely ground pigment is mixed with a solidifying base such as albumen, fig sap, or thin glue. paints, brushes, 12 x 18" (31 x 46 cm) colored construction paper, oil crayons Guiding Practice We start out by examining the exotic jungle scenes of Henri Rousseau, noticing the varieties of plant forms and the many different greens. I then demonstrate how to mix a variety of greens out of three colors, and how to use a brush to make different lines and shapes. Students then use white, blue, and yellow tempera to paint lush vegetation with cool colors. At the next session, we broaden our color selection to paint a sky at sunrise, of sunset, using mostly warm colors. While the background paintings are drying, I read Who's the Beast? by Keith Baker Keith Baker is a freelance writer of Dungeons & Dragons material and is most well known for his setting, Eberron, which won the Wizards of the Coast Fantasy Setting Search. These ore colored with oil crayons, cut out, and glued to the paintings. Students add details by coloring over the top of the compositions with oil crayons. Assessing Learning Can the students identify and describe warm and cool colors? Can students mix colors carefully? Can students control a brush and use it properly? Can students explain how they made specific colors? ClipCard submitted by Jennifer Bellows bellows, expansible, gas-tight chamber used to pump or store a gas.
