Spreading the good chews. From Bible Gum to Testamints, from Scripture Cookies to Heaven's Best Chocolates, religious marketers know that "one does not live by bread alone" (Luke 4:4). "It is hard for me to describe how much this gum draws the little ones young children. See also: Little to church," testifies Bible Gum's satisfied customer Elvin C. (www.xyz.net/~bibtegum). "I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed) "Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party. how many times this gum has been helpful in them receiving Christ as their savior, but it is a goodly good·ly adj. good·li·er, good·li·est 1. Of pleasing appearance; comely. 2. Quite large; considerable: a goodly sum. number." Adds Glenn O., "May I say I am glad you have given us something to sink our teeth into." Bible Gum comes in small cartons that have Bible verses printed on the inside. According to Life Lines, the Alaska-based company that markets the holy chewing gum, "Bible Gum, in its non-threatening, non-judgmental format, is a wonderful way to introduce the `scripturally threatened' individual to one of humanity's most powerful and revered historical and spiritual compilings." Meanwhile, the makers of Scripture Cookies are working hard to become the Christian answer to those superstitious Chinese fortune cookies, and Heaven's Best Chocolates ("carved in the shape of four open Bibles") does its part to spread the good chews. As for Testamints: "If your soul and mouth are pure, use these to heal those afflicted af·flict tr.v. af·flict·ed, af·flict·ing, af·flicts To inflict grievous physical or mental suffering on. [Middle English afflighten, from afflight, with the demon halitosis halitosis (hăl'ĭtō`sĭs), unpleasant odor carried on the breath. It is usually the result of gum disorder, tooth decay, smoking, indulgence in aromatic foods, or a mild digestive upset. ." (Christian Ministry, March 1998) |
