Each year, CalCPA's Public Service Award recognizes a member for notable works done outside of the office--often for the betterment bet·ter·ment  
n.
1. An improvement over what has been the case: financial betterment.

2. Law An improvement beyond normal upkeep and repair that adds to the value of real property.
 of the community or the assistance of the less fortunate, nearly always as a volunteer.

And CalCPA's annual Distinguished Service Award recognizes a member for long and distinguished service or for a singular SINGULAR, construction. In grammar the singular is used to express only one, not plural. Johnson.
     2. In law, the singular frequently includes the plural.
 act resulting in an extraordinary contribution to the profession, CalCPA or the community.

But before CalCPA can recognize these exemplary leaders, you--the members--have to nominate nom·i·nate  
tr.v. nom·i·nat·ed, nom·i·nat·ing, nom·i·nates
1. To propose by name as a candidate, especially for election.

2. To designate or appoint to an office, responsibility, or honor.
 them. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 31.

To be eligible for CalCPA's Public Service Award, candidates must be members in good standing and meet at least one of the following qualifications:

* Participate in charitable, civic or religious activities that have had a long-term significant impact;

* Responsible for a public service project that had a positive, significant impact on the community;

* Service in a notable volunteer capacity in local, state or federal government; or

* Service in an outstanding manner as an appointed or elected official at the local, state or federal level.
