Sports Car Shop expanding into British car sales.

Byline: RETAIL NOTEBOOK By Edward Russo The Register-Guard

For most of his career, Bob Macherione was content to repair Jaguar, Land Rover See LANRover.  and other British cars. Now he wants to sell them, too.

Macherione and his wife, Brenda, plan to move their British auto repair business, the Sports Car Shop, from a small leased garage off West Seventh Avenue in downtown Eugene to a larger, more visible spot on West Sixth Avenue and Lincoln Street. There, they plan to have their repair shop and a used car dealership This article is about car dealerships. For the indie pop band, see Dealership (band).

A car dealership or vehicle local distribution is a business that sells new cars and/or used cars at the retail level, based on a dealership contract with an automaker or
mainly for Jaguar and Land Rover automobiles.

"What we really want to do is become a regional destination for British car owners and enthusiasts," Bob Macherione said.

Eugene has been without a British new-car dealer since 1982, Macherione said, when Hannum Motors closed and when Macherione started the Sports Car Shop in downtown.

There's only one British new-car dealer in the state, a Jaguar dealer in Portland, Macherione said.

He won't be selling new vehicles, but Macherione thinks there is money to be made in selling low-mileage Jaguars and Land Rovers.

He plans to acquire many of his cars from auctions of formerly leased vehicles, generally up to six years old. He also will get cars from brokers in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  and Florida, and will sell cars on consignment The delivery of goods to a carrier to be shipped to a designated person for sale. The new Sports Car Shop will be in the building that once housed Eugene Radiator radiator, device used to heat an area surrounding it or to cool a fluid circulating within it. The familiar radiators of steam and hot water heating systems in buildings are misnamed, as they operate principally by convection, in which heat is transferred by air  Service, which moved earlier this year in a merger with Mac's Radiator Repair. The Macheriones bought the 9,000-foot-structure from Eugene Radiator owners Jim and Jancy Potterf in August for $650,000, according to according to

The Macheriones want their new business to be inviting to car buffs The name Buffs can mean:

  • Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes
  • Buffs Company, a Rifle Company of The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada that parades out of Dalton Armoury in Scarborough.
. The sales area will have car art, memorabilia, accessories and parts for sale. Besides Jaguar and Land Rover, the dealership will sell used MG, Triumph and Austin Healey
For the car brand, see Austin-Healey.

Austin Sean Healey (born 26 October, 1973 in Wallasey, Merseyside) is a former English rugby union footballer, who played as a utility back for Leicester Tigers, and has represented England and the British
 automobiles, including some vintage models.

"I would like to bring back what car dealerships use to be," Macherione said. "You would go in and and look at interesting things, and there wouldn't be pressure on you to buy a car."

It will cost the Macheriones about $250,000 to renovate the building. The repair side of the business should be operating by the end of the month, with the sales area ready early next year.

Macherione, 48, has been interested in British cars since 1963, when his father bought an MG. "With British cars, you form more of an attachment than you do with the Japanese and some of the other brands of cars," he said.
