Spirit of America Appoints Dr. Sanford M. Shapero Chief Executive Officer.

LOS ANGELES -- Dr. Sanford M. Shapero has been named Chief Executive Officer of Spirit of America Worldwide (SoA), a non-profit organization whose mission is to extend the goodwill of the American people to assist those advancing freedom, democracy and peace abroad. Dr. Shapero's appointment was announced by former CEO and founder, Jim Hake, who will serve as Chairman of the Board.

"Sandy is a strong leader with a proven track record for managing and building non-profit organizations. His diverse background in directing volunteer efforts, fundraising and strategic planning for non-profits is perfectly suited to lead Spirit of America through the next phase of growth. His professional experience along with his demonstrated commitment to advocating freedom for all people made him an ideal choice to lead our team," said Hake.

Before joining SoA, Dr. Shapero enjoyed a long career as an executive in philanthropic and corporate endeavors where his expertise in fundraising, development, community involvement, team building and strategizing contributed to profitability and growth. He was formerly Senior Vice President of Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital Foundation and Founding Director of the hospital's Center for Gerontology. Prior to that, he served as President and CEO of the City of Hope National Medical Center where he orchestrated a successful turnaround from annual losses to sustained profits and established City of Hope as a pre-eminent tertiary care center and research institute. He also spent several years at Pacific Rim Survey Company working in leadership training and biotech development in Taiwan with Taipei, Kaohsiung Department of Health, I-Shou University and GGB Biology Corporation.

Early in his career, Dr. Shapero became active in civil rights causes, including marching with Dr. Martin Luther King in Albany, Georgia. He served as a U.S. Navy Chaplain in the South Pacific and was appointed by former President George Bush to a four-year term on the National Council on Aging of the National Institutes of Health in Washington D.C.

"I'm delighted to be joining an organization which has been so successful in implementing projects to encourage individual liberties and to provide for critical needs. I was immediately inspired by the Spirit of America team and its rich character and dedication to sharing America's core values under the most difficult conditions. Jim Hake has taken the seed of a dream to make a real difference in people's lives and created a movement that is having a powerful impact. I am excited and honored to continue and to expand his vision," affirmed Shapero.

Dr. Shapero, who was born in Cincinnati, earned a BA degree in Psychology at the University of Dayton and various Masters Degrees and Professional Certifications, including a certification in Finance & Corporate Strategy from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business.
