Enterprise Network Performance Analysis System "ENPAS" combines two award-winning products to measure performance from data link layer to

application layer in a single solution

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2000

Spirent Communications, the world leader in network performance and analysis systems, and NetIQ Corporation (Nasdaq:NTIQ), the leading provider of e-business infrastructure management, today announced the successful collaboration of SmartBits(R) TeraMetrics open test platform and Chariot application-level testing software to create "ENPAS" (Enterprise Network Performance Analysis System).

ENPAS meets customer needs for highly scalable, well-integrated, data link to application layer performance testing Performance Testing covers a broad range of engineering or functional evaluations where a material, product, or system is not specified by detailed material or component specifications: Rather, emphasis is on the final measurable performance characteristics. . This new collaborative solution simulates the end-user application experience, together with IP QoS, TCP (1) (Transmission Control Protocol) The reliable transport protocol within the TCP/IP protocol suite. TCP ensures that all data arrive accurately and 100% intact at the other end. , Voice over IP and other network testing at up to wire speed performance on a single platform. The new application is made possible by the availability of the new TeraMetrics LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  6301 first-to-market system for 10Mbps/100Mbps/1000Mbps Ethernet testing.

The combined solution runs a Chariot endpoint on the cut-through channel of TeraMetrics modules to perform response time and throughput measurements at the application layer, complementing state-of-the-art SmartBits measurements.

Chariot enables different traffic to be generated and analyzed to simulate business applications such as BAAN, SAP, and Microsoft Exchange Messaging and groupware software for Windows from Microsoft. Exchange Server is an Internet-compliant e-mail system that runs under Windows NT/2000 and Windows Server 2003. It can be accessed by Web browsers, the Exchange client, versions of Outlook and the earlier Windows Inbox. , database updates, FTP FTP

, Telnet, Web, e-Commerce, and NetMeeting. The user can run the TeraMetrics and Chariot functions either together or separately.

"Network Equipment Manufacturers, Service Providers and Enterprise users have been using Chariot for years to understand how applications will perform as the network infrastructure changes," said Steve Joyce, director of network technology for NetIQ. "Now, they can also benefit from the scalability of the TeraMetrics platform when doing application-level testing. We are very excited to bring our award-winning Chariot product to this new solution."

"This exciting new combined solution has been a key goal of our award-winning TeraMetrics platform," said Mark Fishburn, Spirent Communications, vice president of marketing for SmartBits Systems. "Our customers have recognized the individual benefits of both products, and now we can deliver the integrated solution to finally give them the complete picture of network performance that they have been asking for."

A live demonstration of ENPAS (the combined TeraMetrics/Chariot solution) will be shown in the Spirent Communications booth No. 7337 during NetWorld +Interop Atlanta, September 26-28, 2000.
