Spire Offers Single Long-Pulse Solar Simulators; New Feature Improves Speed, Flexibility and Accuracy of Solar Module Testing.

BEDFORD, Mass. -- Spire Corporation (Nasdaq: SPIR SPIR Symmetric Private Information Retrieval
SPIR Spectroscopie Dans le Proche Infrarouge (French: Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy)
SPIR Spare Parts List and Interchangeability Record
) introduces an enhanced feature option for the Company's line of solar simulators, which are used to test photovoltaic modules In the field of photovoltaics, a photovoltaic module is a packaged interconnected assembly of photovoltaic cells, also known as solar cells. An installation of photovoltaic modules or panels is known as a photovoltaic array. . The enhancement incorporates a very stable single long-pulse (SLP (Service Location Protocol) An IETF standard used to announce and discover services such as printers and file shares on an IP network. Apple used SLP prior to Mac OS 10.2, but migrated to its Bonjour technology. SLP is also used in SIP-based IP telephony applications. ) of light during which the entire I-V I-V Current/Voltage  measurement is performed. This feature is now available on Spire's world proven simulators, the SPI-SUN SIMULATOR 3500 and the SPI-SUN SIMULATOR 4600. The new, optional configurations are designated SPI-SUN SIMULATOR 3500SLP and SPI-SUN SIMULATOR 4600SLP.

Customers can now order simulators with either a multi-flash or new single-flash light source which features an adjustable flash duration from 10 milliseconds to 120 milliseconds. Advanced electronic control assures temporal stability during the duration of the flash to within 0.2% by means of an active control circuit that also makes efficient use of the lamp power supply. As with all Spire simulators, the units are equipped with the special spectral spectral /spec·tral/ (spek´tral) pertaining to a spectrum; performed by means of a spectrum.

filters that provide a Class A spectral match from the xenon xenon (zē`nŏn) [Gr.,=strange], gaseous chemical element; symbol Xe; at. no. 54; at. wt. 131.29; m.p. −111.9°C;; b.p. −107.1°C;; density 5.86 grams per liter at STP; valence usually 0.  flash tubes. In addition, the single long-pulse simulators maintain Spire's Class A characterization of spatial uniformity and temporal stability.

The advantages of the new single long-pulse simulator option are:

--Simulator test cycle time is reduced to 15 seconds, doubling the throughput compared to a multi-flash simulator.

--Measurements are highly repeatable, eliminating any flash-to-flash variations.

--The voltage and current ranges have been extended over the current multi-flash simulators, from a maximum of 150V / 20A to 250V / 25A.

--The long pulse improves measurement accuracy when testing certain materials such as high capacitance capacitance, in electricity, capability of a body, system, circuit, or device for storing electric charge. Capacitance is expressed as the ratio of stored charge in coulombs to the impressed potential difference in volts.  thin film modules or modules produced with very high efficiency silicon cells.

"The SPI-SUN SIMULATOR series incorporates state of the art engineering features designed to maintain its leadership in photovoltaic module testing," said Stephen J. Hogan, GM & Executive VP, Spire Solar. He continues, "These features are both evolutionary from Spire's 25 years of experience on over 200 simulators supplied to the PV community, and revolutionary based on our advanced engineering capabilities."

Spire welcomes inquiries about the SPI-SUN SIMULATOR SLP series and is prepared to demonstrate its performance for qualified customers. The SLP joins the QA option for simulators. Both the SLP and QA options may be integrated together to quickly test both electrical performance and safety testing of completed modules.
