Spidey fans spin a web of gold for the studio.

SPIDER-MAN has become the fastest film to take $200m in the US - beating Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

Spider-Man passed the mark on Saturday, its ninth day of release, with takings last weekend of almost pounds 49m.

It took The Phantom Menace 13 days to reach $200m.

The film had the best second weekend ever, beating the pounds 39m that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone took over the same period.

l Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone has made UK history by becoming the most successful video and DVD release of all time.

More than 1.25 million copies of the blockbusting movie, tracing the schooldays of Harry Potter were sold on the first day of its release.
