Spectra Environmental Group, Inc., and Spectra Engineering, Architecture & Surveying, P.C. the fully integrated engineering and environmental consulting firm headquartered in Latham, announces exclusive regional rights to 'TerraVision,' a breakthrough ground penetrating radar technology. The state-of-the-art technology gives Spectra an important, exclusive 'leg up' for solving important problems of the utility, construction and transportation industries in New York State and the northeast. TerraVision offers utilities and the construction industry much needed precision in locating underground assets such as gas and water lines and conduit.

Spectra has formed an alliance with UIT, Underground Imaging Technology, LLC. of Iowa, for exclusive regional rights. 'TerraVision' has dramatic advantages over present such systems, allowing radar mapping and location of subsurface conditions, such as utility assets and subsurface conditions of roadways and bridges. It offers a breadth and quality of information on subsurface conditions heretofore simply not available.

Spectra is recognized for its expertise in civil and infrastructure engineering, the range of environmental issues, mining and landfill matters, utility work and transportation and railroad projects in New York State and throughout the northeast.

The TerraVision System using an exclusive and unique multiple antennae system, can read and provide a three dimensional map of subsurface conditions along a five foot swath and up to twenty feet in depth. Current technology is limited to a swath of a few mere inches and comparatively primitive subsurface readings.

With this technology utilities can locate with precision and assess conditions of conduit and pipelines, construction companies can plan excavations avoiding damage to below the ground systems, and construction and engineering companies and public agencies will be able to assess roadway and bridge conditions with high quality, accurate information not available today without excavation.

Spectra, formed in 1993, provides specialized engineering and consulting services to private and governmental clients in the areas of civil and railroad engineering, architecture, landfill remediation, air quality, water and wastewater, and overall environmental compliance matters. The firm employs over 70 professional staff at four locations in New York State.
