Spectra Engineering Acquires Hayward and Pakan Associates; Strengthens Regional Presence in Hudson Valley.

LATHAM, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 2001

Albany, New York-based Spectra Environmental Group, Inc. has acquired one of the oldest private engineering firms in the region, Hayward and Pakan Associates of Poughkeepsie.

Spectra founder Robert C. LaFleur stated that, "In so doing, Spectra strengthens its regional presence in the Hudson River Hudson River

Spectra Engineering president John H. Shafer, P.E. says the acquisition broadens Spectra's professional qualifications; "In addition to Peter R. Cantline, P.E., a civil engineer, the other two partners of Hayward and Pakan, John V. Kane III, R.A. and Roger A. Mastri, L.S. are a licensed architect and a licensed land surveyor, respectively. It is a unique mix and a great fit for Spectra to bring those capabilities in house. Hayward and Pakan has a regional reputation for excellence in a range of areas, but especially in commercial and residential projects."

Hayward and Pakan, formed in 1936, has project books and records dating back to the early 1950's, with some 12,000 projects.

Hayward and Pakan's offices at 321 Main Street, Poughkeepsie will remain at that location and will take the Spectra name in the near term.

The firm takes its name from Harold Hayward a civil engineer from New York City New York City: see New York, city.
