PACING, PRIORITIES & PARAMETERS

To be impeccable in our practice our tools of trade must be substantial, meaningful, and scientifically sound. The responsibility of knowing a client well, understanding emotional needs and affecting change is a partnership. Years of learning, hours of study and countless minutes of introspection all make for good therapy. This ultimate test of the meaning is the implication for the client. Although such meanings are shared the client alone realizes them as personal experience. The fluid of meaning is within each person. The pendulum of the mind oscillates between sense and non-sense rather than right or wrong.

We all have a "natural niche" for healthy thinking and we as therapists must frequent this "niche" continually to better serve others as we discuss together the many areas of growth in hypnotherapy and how they relate to healthier thinking.

Rayma Ditson-Sommer, PhD, has a background in psychology, biofeedback, neuro-learning, early childhood education, neuropsychology and research. She has developed programs for sports science, learning, and others. She is an internationally known speaker and consultant with a private practice in Phoenix, AZ. She is CEO of OPNET, Inc. and is a Board Member of the Peak Performance Center and IMDHA. Dr. Sommer developed the world-class light and sound machine, Sportlink and holds the patent for her Peripheral White Light Glasses for her latest light and sound machine. Her athletes have taken home Olympic Gold! Dr. Sommer is a frequent contributor to Subconsciously Speaking, as well as professional athletic magazines. Having trained hundreds in light and sound technology, her techniques are used worldwide. She received the President's Award for Research and Development in 1998 from IMDHA. Dr. Sommer established the Chrishaven Foundation, a nonprofit organization for the primary pro-pose of providing therapeutic services for children and youth diagnosed with labels stemming from neglect, abandonment and abuse, manifested through behavioral and learning disorders. HYPNOTHERAPY: A KEY MODALITY IN MULTIMODAL INTEGRATIVE HEALING APPROACHES

Dr. Bob Levine will discuss the current status of complementary and integrative medicine usage and research in the United States, and how hypnotherapy remains a vital modality in the holistic approach to healing chronic illness and maintaining optimal health. He will present a few of the unique cases where hypnotherapy has been vital for successful outcomes of surgery, including the hypnotherapy in place of general or spinal anesthesia during complete ACL reconstructive knee surgery. Bob will also discuss his current research on hypnotherapy and how hypnotherapy plays a critical role in the healing approaches used at the Henry Ford Center for Integrative Medicine in Novi, MI.

Robert Levine, PhD--Dr. Bob Levine received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 1982. A researcher for 9 years at the National Institutes of Health, he has been the Director of the Gossett Neurology Laboratories at Henry Ford Health System since 1993. In 1998, he organized the first alternative medicine clinical trial at HFHS studying migraine headache He has been instrumental in the Ford Center for Integrative Medicine in Novi. MI. Trained in acupuncture, St. John Neuromuscular Therapy, and hypnotherapy, Dr. Levine is also the Director of Complementary and Integrative Medicine Research for the Henry Ford Health System.
