This book provides basic principles, construction, theory, and control of non-traditional electrical motors such as stepper motors, switched reluctance motors, permanent magnet materials and motors, brushless dc motors, and linear induction and linear synchronous motors. About 25 pages of appendices cover analysis for current, torque, and transient response of the SR motor; circuit design and fabrication of a power electronic controller for an SR motor using MOSFETS; and Pohl's method for predicting the air-gap. The book is for graduate students, senior undergraduates, and researchers engaged in the design of machines and associated electronics. Venkataratnam was a faculty member at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology.
