Platform Statement:

For several years I have been involved in all aspects of career and technical education at the local, state and national levels. In my state, I have striven to be a strong voice for special needs students to insure their needs are recognized and met. As an educator, I know our students are capable of meeting the demands of the workplace in today's society. We must strive to keep our students qualified and employed in a changing environment.

As your vice-president of the Special Needs Division, I will be committed to building a strong foundation among educators. An emphasis will be on increasing membership, creating more partnerships in education, and strengthening legislative efforts to improve the image of our program. I look forward to getting more involved in the decision making process and taking advantage of the many resources available to our organizations. With your support, we can make a difference in letting our voices be heard throughout career and technical education.

Platform Statement:

As we begin our journey through the information age, it is vitally important that no student be left behind. Career & Technical Education is the vehicle through which all students can achieve success. It is extremely important that as an association, ACTE make every effort to encourage, promote, reward and develop quality teaching. As your Special Needs Division Vice President, I will work within the Career & Technical Education community to achieve the following goals:

* Ensure all special needs students receive a quality education

* Provide a showcase for quality programs through the use of the ACTE website, email, and printed material to assist schools in building quality programs

* Produce a newsletter and develop a listserve whereby special needs teachers can share instructional practices

* Work with special needs interest groups to create a community of educators

These goals cannot be accomplished without the thousands of Special Needs educators throughout the nation providing programs and services for special populations. Therefore, my primary goal as Vice President will be membership in ACTE Special Needs Division.
