Special Export sponsors Coon Creek race

The G. Heileman Brewing Co. and Special Export Light were the proud sponsors of this year's Coon Creek Canoe race, held April 27 and 28, in Coon Valley, WI.

Heileman distributor, G & F Distributing Inc., Viroqua, WI, was on hand to serve plenty of Special Export Light to the thousands of thirsty participants and spectators.

"Special Export Light is proud to sponsor the 1991 Coon Creek Canoe race," said Garrett Plepel, G. Heileman's group marketing director. "Just as the race has developed into the area's fastest-growing event, so too has Special Export Light developed into the area's fastest-growing beer."

Besides beer, Heileman provided alternative beverages, including LaCroix Sparkling Water and Kingsbury Non-Alcoholic beer.

The six-mile canoe race began in 1978 as a University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse graduate student's recreation class project. Although the race is still a student project, it is no longer affiliated with the university. What started as a relatively small event, has evolved into one of the largest festivals in the area.

Although the number of canoeists in the race was limited to 1,500, approximately 12,000 people attended the annual event to enjoy the food, refreshments and entertainment provided.
