Problem solved? Not quite.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department This article is about the Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department, not to be confused with the smaller Los Angeles County Police

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) is a local law enforcement agency that serves Los Angeles County, California.
has received a license from the Federal Communications Commission Federal Communications Commission (FCC), independent executive agency of the U.S. government established in 1934 to regulate interstate and foreign communications in the public interest.  allowing their helicopters to shoot video and relay it to command centers on the ground at a new frequency that won't get interference from other sources.

The license was necessary because the interference--from sources including helicopter news crews--makes it difficult for deputies to use the aerial video.

"We found out microwave ovens also use the same channel," said Jack King, special projects engineer for L.A. County Sheriffs Radio Services. Deputies want to use the helicopter-mounted video more often, for everything from coordinating high-speed pursuits to helping officers on the ground deploy in riot or hostage situations and locating brush fire hot spots using infra-red imaging.

But as it turns out ....

The new frequency gets interference from radio telescopes in other parts of California used by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory “JPL” redirects here. For other uses, see JPL (disambiguation).

Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is a NASA research center located in the cities of Pasadena and La CaƱada Flintridge, near Los Angeles, California, USA.

SETI SETI (sĕt`ē) [Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence], name given to a series of independent programs to detect radio signals from civilizations beyond the solar system.  signals are so powerful that they disrupt the sheriff's new frequency from afar. So the cops and the space scientists are trying to find a way to work together.
