Sovereign Bank New England announced today that it will give every baby born on June 19th, 2001 a $100 U.S. Savings Bond to celebrate the bank's first anniversary in the New England Region. All Sovereign community banking offices in Massachusetts, Rhode Island Rhode Island, island, United States

There are two requirements to be eligible for the $100 U.S. Savings Bond. First, a child must be born on June 19, 2001, Sovereign's first anniversary. Second, the child and parent or guardian must be residents where a Sovereign community banking office is located in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut or New Hampshire. Parents or guardians will be required to bring the child's birth certificate to a Sovereign branch in the community where they live to fill out the application for the savings bond. In addition to the savings bond, parents will receive a basket of Sovereign baby items including a bib bib - BibTeX , diaper shirt and rattle. Parents will have six months after the child is born, until December 19, 2001, to obtain the bond and basket.

If applicants for the baby bonds have any questions they should contact their local Sovereign Bank branch manager.

Sovereign Bank will also have a birthday cake in all branches on June 19, 2001 to share with their customers.

Sovereign's first anniversary accomplishments include:

--The successful conversion of 279 community banking offices and 550 ATM machines throughout New England from Fleet and BankBoston

--Conversion of 1.4 million accounts with $12.3 billion in balances and $3.5 billion in loans

--Retention of 99.8 per cent of customers
