Southwest Division.


I join the members of the Southwest Division in thanking outgoing President Geri Cheney, NCTM NCTM National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
NCTM Nationally Certified Teacher of Music
NCTM North Carolina Transportation Museum
NCTM National Capital Trolley Museum
NCTM Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage
, for her countless hours of dedication to our division. She has been an exemplary role model and will continue to strengthen the leadership as she begins her term on the Board of Directors. Joining the Southwest Division as president-elect is Lezlee Bishop, NCTM (Salt Lake City). She brings with her a wealth of leadership experience, which includes Utah MTA president and session monitor chair for the 2003 National Conference.

New to our division competition team is Jeanne Grealish, NCTM (Albuquerque), who takes over as the junior high chair, replacing Tammy Nakasato (Honolulu.) It was a pleasure to work with Tammy; she is a professional in every sense of the word. Our 2005 division competitions will be held January 21-23 at California State University Enrollment
, Long Beach.

Congratulations to California on receiving the 2004 State Affiliate of the Year Award. Its state activities will be spotlighted in my next article.

The Arizona State University Arizona State University, at Tempe; coeducational; opened 1886 as a normal school, became 1925 Tempe State Teachers College, renamed 1945 Arizona State College at Tempe. Its present name was adopted in 1958.  collegiate chapter presented a successful workshop at the MTNA MTNA Music Teachers National Association
MTNA Middle Tennessee Nursery Association (McMinnville, Tennessee) 
 National Conference. Kassandra Jenkins, a member of this group, has been appointed to serve on the MTNA Collegiate Task Force.

--Cheryl Pachak-Brooks, NCTM Portales, New Mexico Portales is the county seat of Roosevelt CountyGR6, New Mexico, with a total population of 11,131 (as of the 2000 census). It is the home of Eastern New Mexico University.  

Southwest Division President 2004-2006

Cheryl Pachak-Brooks, NCTM, immediate past president of the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico, has served PMTNM PMTNM Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico, Inc  as district vice president, state newsletter editor/advertising manager, collegiate competitions chair and collegiate student chapter chair. Pachak-Brooks has bachelor's and master's degrees in piano performance and pedagogy.
