The California Association of Professional Music Teachers annual state conference will be February 9-11 at the San Mateo Marriott near San Francisco and will feature MTNA Executive Director Gary Ingle and a workshop entitled "The Studio Makeover" by MTNA Director of Educational Services Rachel Kramer. The conference artists are Elena Martin and Jose Meliton, a piano duo team.

CAPMT has completed a revision of its constitution and bylaws for the purpose of establishing wider representation in the decision-making processes and greater involvement of the membership in shaping the course and determining CAPMT's long and short term goals, both at the state and local levels; to reduce the work load of the officers; and to clarify and better define or redefine certain policies and procedures.

Arizona Music Teachers Association has six active local associations. The Phoenix Music Teachers Association, under the guidance of President Gail Quackenbush, has begun a new outreach program this year. Its goal is to improve contact with the community, focusing on public schools and local music stores. The chair, Gene Pickens, and his committee have worked with local music store owners to place PMTA posters and business cards in their stores and provided PMTA brochures that can be put in the piano benches of all pianos that are sold or rented. A large mailing to local music teachers in the public schools was done last summer.
