Southwest Division.The 2006 California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT CAPMT California Association of Professional Music Teachers ) State Conference will be held February 17-19 in Costa Mesa, California Costa Mesa is a suburban middle class city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 108,724 at the 2000 census. Since its incorporation in 1953, the city has grown from a semi-rural farming community of 16,840 to a suburban city with an economy based on . Davide Cabassi, a finalist from the recent 2005 Van Cliburn Competition, will be the guest artist. Making his orchestral debut at age 13, Cabassi has been engaged by most of the prominent musical associations of his native country, and spent five years as one of the few select students at the International Piano Foundation in Cadenabbia, Italy. Among the many activities planned for the weekend will be a chamber performance by the Hollywood String Quartet The Hollywood String Quartet was formed in 1939 by violinist and conductor Felix Slatkin and his wife, cellist Eleanor Aller. The original formation of the quartet was rounded out by Joachim Chassman and Paul Robyn. They broke up in 1941 due to Slatkin's entry into the army. , prefaced with a screening of Salome Arkatov's Memories of John Browning: the Lhevinne Legacy Continues. This feature premiere is an homage to the great American pianist John Browning.
