SouthernLINC Wireless Added More Than 20 Towers in Fourth Quarter of 2006.

Towers to Provide Improved Coverage in Parts of Alabama, Florida and Georgia

ATLANTA -- SouthernLINC Wireless([R]), a Southern Company (NYSE: SO) announced today that it added more than 20 towers in its service area during the fourth quarter of 2006. SouthernLINC Wireless delivers multiple wireless communication options including push to talk, cellular service, text messaging, wireless Internet access and wireless data using the Motorola iDEN technology across their 128,000 square mile footprint.

The new towers enhanced the company's local coverage and improved call performance in portions of Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Specifically, ten towers were added in Georgia, ten in Alabama and one in the Florida panhandle.

The new towers were built to "weather grade" specifications, making the network reliable even in extreme weather conditions. A network built to withstand severe weather conditions is especially important for police, fire departments and other first responders--many of whom are SouthernLINC customers.

"While the new towers have improved call performance for our customers in those areas, additional construction is underway as well to improve network performance for our customers," said Alan McIntyre, RF Design Manager, SouthernLINC Wireless.
