The Charlotte MTA encouraged students to strive for student certification, promoting involvement in the community, and they hosted a Beethoven composition event and recital. The Durham Music Teachers Chapter commissioned Malcom Rector to compose and conduct a piece for the Annual Black Composers Recital. Other activities included three annual play-a-thons, raising $1,500 for a scholarship fund. In Mississippi, the League of Meridian Music Teachers featured student recitals and a hymn festival. The Hattiesburg MTA sponsored monthly recitals, a spring concert for high school students and a composer festival. The Vicksburg MTA held an annual boys' recital, an adult student event and a session called "Pipes, Pedals and Pizza." The Music Forum of Jackson scheduled a Sonata Festival and Bach Festival, while the Jones County MTA featured a Solo-Sonata Piano Competition and an Ensemble Festival.
