Students in the Chapel Hill MTA participated in a spring student compose-a-thon and recital. Also, Scott Price presented a program about "Teaching Improvisation to Elementary and Intermediate Students." The Columbia MTA spotlighted Ann Wilson and Stephen Taylor in a session on "Creativity and Artistry for the Elementary Level Student." The Greenwood MTA hosted a master class, given by Olga Kern, gold medal winner of the 11th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition The Van Cliburn International Piano Competition was first held in 1962 in Fort Worth, Texas. This was created by Fort Worth area teachers in honor of Van Cliburn, who had won the first International Tchaikovsky Competition four years prior with Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto. .
