Southern Pacific agreed on fine for smog-producing trains

EL MONTE El Monte (ĕl mŏn`tē), city (1990 pop. 106,209), Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1912. A residential, industrial, and commercial city in the San Gabriel Valley, El Monte manufactures furniture, electronic equipment, semiconductors,  -- The Southern Pacific Transportation Co. agreed to pay local air regulators $425,000 last week to settle multiple violations stemming from smog-producing trains.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), formed in 1976, is the air pollution agency responsible mainly for regulating stationary sources of air pollution for most of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside County, and all of Orange county.  will use the $425,000 to research pollution-control technology for diesel locomotives and institute a rigorous train-inspection program. The railroad company also agreed to pay new fines in the future should the AQMD AQMD Air Quality Management District

 detect smoke violations.

Last fall smog czars conducted a three-month crackdown on trains which emitted excessive smoke for more than three minutes "Three Minutes" is the 46th episode of Lost. It is the twenty-second episode of the second season. The episode was directed by Stephen Williams, and written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. It first aired on May 17, 2006 on ABC. .
