The Mississippi MTA is making plans for its fiftieth convention at Hinds Community College Hinds Community College is a community college with its main campus located in Raymond, Mississippi, about five miles west of Jackson, the state capital. The Hinds Community College District includes Hinds County, Claiborne County, part of Copiah County, Rankin County, and Warren , November 4-6. To celebrate the occasion, commissioned student compositions will be premiered. Each local association will have an opportunity to showcase its organization at the Local Association Banquet. Also, the convention will host a reading session with Jane Magrath, NCTM. Mississippi leads the division in the percentage of its membership holding National Certification. In January, the state board voted to reimburse newly certified members their fees.

In North Carolina, the Raleigh PTA, will celebrate its fiftieth year. The Young Artists Auditions, hosted by RPTA, will be 25 years old. Tom Lohr of Meredith College will be composing several pieces for this year's auditions in honor of the occasion.

As a joint venture, the Charlotte MTA and the Charlotte Civic Orchestra offer concerto auditions for high school students. The winners in six instrumental categories will perform with the orchestra. Also, CMTA CMTA
