Southern Division.

The MTNA Southern Division competitions at Florida State University were quite successful! We send our appreciation to Local Coordinators Leonard and Norma Mastrogiacomo; Adjudicator Chair Marc Hebda; Monitor Chair Norma Mastrogiacomo; and Hospitality Chair Martha Stubbs. Our gratitude goes to Carol Dennes, NCTM, MTNA Southern Division competition chair and Division Coordinators Diana Aubrey, NCTM, Susan Andrews, NCTM, and Barbara Shinn, NCTM.

Highlights in South Carolina include, the Greenville MTA forum on "Transcending the Perfect Performance," with David Gross and Duane White; Phyllis Rappeport's session on "Intermediate Haydn Sonatas" and a lecture/demonstration by Gary M. Stegall on "Mozart Sonatas." The Columbia MTA showcased William DeVan's "Velocity and Ease," Betsy Neal's forum "Adapting Music and Teaching Techniques for Students With Learning Challenges" and Scott Price's session "What is This Mess in Front of Me? Demystifying the Score for Young Pianists."

In Tennessee, the Martin Area MTA presented Andrea Anderson's workshop "From Harpsichord to Grand." The Nashville Area MTA organized a statewide project "M4M" (Musicians for Mississippi), where Tennessee musicians assisted music students and teachers who were victims of Hurricane Katrina.

In Virginia, Central Virginia MTA's membership goal encourages teachers of minority instruments to join. The Tidewater Music Teachers Forum held its first annual Play-a-Thon, raising money for scholarship programs and community outreach. The Roanoke Valley MTA has four members who have received national certification this year!
