Introduction

All resorts with current four- or five-diamond and/or four- or five-star ratings are included in the listings below. Resorts that have opened since the yearly ratings were issued are listed with the notation notation: see arithmetic and musical notation.

Diamond ratings are issued yearly by the Automobile Club of Southern California The Automobile Club of Southern California was founded December 13, 1900 in Los Angeles as one of the nation's first motor clubs dedicated to improving roads, proposing traffic laws and improvement of overall driving conditions.  (AAA AAA: see American Automobile Association.

A four-diamond rating reflects a high level of service, upscale facilities and a wide variety of amenities in the rooms, public areas and on the grounds. To achieve a five-diamond rating, properties must have striking, luxurious facilities, an exceptionally high degree of service and extra amenities.

Star ratings are issued yearly by the Mobil Travel Guide published by ExxonMobil Corp. Each rated property is inspected and must meet Mobil Travel Guide standards of cleanliness Cleanliness
