TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 28, 1998--Southern Africa Mine (TSE:SAF.) Mosomane Property: Southern Africa Minerals Corporation (SAF) is pleased to report that a program of surface trenching and drilling is to commence immediately on its 100 percent owned, 1.6 million acre Mosomane diamond property. The property is located 50 km north of Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, and is accessible by paved road on the highly productive Jwaneng/Martins Drift/Venetia diamond trend.

The program will test targets that have been geochemically confirmed to host kimberlitic ilmenites which have been recovered from at least 30 sites on the west central portion of the property. Based on a study of the grain fabrics of the indicator minerals, several of the anomalous sites have a proximal source and coincide with some of the more than 50 geophysical targets outlined by airborne magnetic data. More recently, chromites with geochemical compositions within the diamond stability field have been recovered enhancing the diamond potential of the property.

The program will consist of stripping and trenching of geochemical and geophysical anomalies to be followed by 200 to 400 shallow percussion drill holes. The anomalies have the potential to define a new cluster of kimberlite targets which have never been drill tested. The purpose of the program is to outline the kimberlites and to sample the populations of indicator minerals (potentially diamonds) within them to determine their economic potential. The area is believed to be covered by Kalahari sands not exceeding 5-10 meters. Bedrock exposure has been observed but is rare.

Meanwhile, additional regional sampling has been initiated in areas where isolated sampling of magnetic targets have revealed kimberlitic indicator minerals which may indicate other clusters on the Mosomane licenses. Hundreds of regional heavy mineral concentrates are currently being examined at the laboratories of Lakefield Research in Ontario. SAF's diamond exploration effort is being conducted under the direction of diamond consultant Bill Jarvis who has more than 20 years of diamond exploration experience.
