At the Southeast Regional Conference in Lexington, Ky., in April, Douglas Thomas received the Chester W. Freeman Citizen Award. Thomas is the chairman of the Recreation Advisory Board in Ormond Beach Ormond Beach, resort and residential city (1990 pop. 29,721), Volusia co., NE Fla., on Halifax River (a lagoon) and the Atlantic Ocean; inc. 1880. It was founded (1873) as a health resort and was the winter home of several famous people, including John D. , Fla. Also, Dr. Phil Dr. Phil may refer to:

Spalding County (Ga.) seniors will be building bone mass, thanks to the Spalding County Parks and Recreation Department. Kelly Leger, senior center supervisor, and Louis Greene, recreation director, submitted a winning proposal to the Georgia Commission on Women for support to fight osteoporosis in their community. Osteoporosis is a bone-thinning disease that is epidemic in Georgia, costing the taxpayers close to $1 million a year. Building stronger bones in the community will help seniors maintain their independence.

The Orlando Miracle invited local park and recreation supporters to their game against the Indiana Fever on July 3 to celebrate "July is Parks & Recreation Month." The Miracle continued the focus on the benefits of parks and recreation at games against the Washington Mystics on July 8 and the Charlotte Sting on July 12. The Sting brought their support of parks and recreation home to Charlotte on July 25 in a game against the Cleveland Rockers.
