South Florida Junior Achievement Student Receives $10,000 Scholarship from Office Depot; Special Check Presentation to Be Held at Office Depot Store in Hollywood on June 11.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 2003

Talha Syed, a Junior Achievement (JA) student from Pembroke Pines Pembroke Pines, city (1990 pop. 65,452), Broward co., SE Fla., a residential suburb between Miami and Fort Lauderdale; inc. 1961. A significant retirement community, the suburb grew rapidly in the late 20th cent., and more than doubled in size between 1990 and 2000. , Fla. has been awarded the 2003 Office Depot Office Depot (NYSE: ODP) is one of the world's leading suppliers of office products and services. A special check presentation recognizing Talha's achievement will be held at Office Depot's retail store located at 4901 Sheridan Street in Hollywood on Wednesday, June 11 at 11:00 a.m. McArthur High School Principal, Dr. Beverly James and Area Superintendent, Dr. Sam Gregg will join Office Depot executives and Junior Achievement President, Melissa Aiello at the event.

The Office Depot scholarship consists of a $10,000 award to students who have demonstrated superior academic achievement, leadership skills, and active participation in JA. The award may be used for education expenses at any accredited accredited

recognition by an appropriate authority that the performance of a particular institution has satisfied a prestated set of criteria.

This is the first year that Office Depot has offered these scholarships. The $10,000 award will be given to six students nationwide, one from each Office Depot region.

Talha ranked in the top 5% of his class and was extremely active in school, including as a member of three honor societies including the National Honor Society The National Honor Society (NHS), established in 1921, is a recognition program for American high school students who show achievement in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. , Junior Academy of Science, and Mu Alpha Theta Mu Alpha Theta (ΜΑΘ = math) is a United States mathematics honor society for high schools and two-year colleges. It has over 75,000 student members in more than 1,500 schools worldwide. . Talha is enrolled at Florida International University Florida International University, primarily at University Park, Miami; coeducational; chartered 1965, opened 1972. A research university, it has 18 colleges and schools and many specialized centers and institutes, including those in biomedical engineering, database  in the fall majoring in Business Administration.
