South Central Division. (Division News).Three states in our division have chosen to recognize respected teachers and pedagogues. J.D. Kelly, NCTM NCTM National Council of Teachers of Mathematics NCTM Nationally Certified Teacher of Music NCTM North Carolina Transportation Museum NCTM National Capital Trolley Museum NCTM Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage , retired from Arkansas State University Arkansas State University, at Jonesboro; coeducational; chartered 1909; named State Agricultural and Mechanical College, 1925–33. In 1933 the school became Arkansas State College, and in 1967 it achieved university status and adopted its present name. , where he was a professor of music and coordinator of keyboard activities, continues to perform, teach, adjudicate and present lectures. He has held many positions in Arkansas State MTA (ASMTA) including treasurer and president. He was honored as the College Teacher of the Year in 1993. Kelly is a friend and mentor to many involved with ASMTA. His knowledge of the organization and his willingness to share his time have been invaluable. Louisiana State University Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, generally known as Louisiana State University or LSU, is a public, coeducational university located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and the main campus of the Louisiana State University System. in Baton Rouge recently honored Barineau Professor of Piano Constance Knox Carroll, NCTM, by establishing an endowed scholarship in her name. Carroll was the 2001 Louisiana MTA Outstanding Teacher of the Year and a 2002 MTNA MTNA Music Teachers National Association MTNA Middle Tennessee Nursery Association (McMinnville, Tennessee) FOUNDATION Fellow. At its convention in May, the Oklahoma MTA (OMTA) presented Jane Magrath, NCTM, with the 2003 Distinguished Teacher Award. As one of her colleagues wrote, "In her nearly twenty years on the faculty of the University of Oklahoma University of Oklahoma, abbreviated OU, is a coeducational public research university located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Founded in 1890, it existed in Oklahoma Territory near Indian Territory 17 years before the two became the state of Oklahoma. , she has distinguished herself in the eyes of all of her peers as one of the finest piano pedagogues in the world.
