Louisiana MTA will hold its state conference October 27-28, 2005, at Loyola University in New Orleans, followed by the Louisiana MTNA Performance Competitions. Conference artists include Carolyn True, NCTM, Dallas Weekly, Nancy Arganbright and Martha Mier, NCTM. New Orleans MTA is celebrating 100 years as a piano/music teachers' organization. The Oklahoma MTA conference in June boasted one of the highest attendance records in recent years. Highlights included a visit by South Central Division President Ruth Pitts, NCTM, a new member cocktail reception and a banquet honoring 40- and 50-year members, at which time the family of the late Jan Steele was presented with a special memorial tribute honoring her as OMTA's 2004-2005 Distinguished Teacher. At the Texas MTA conference, President Sherry Frush, NCTM, was named TMTA TMTA Transmeta (stock symbol) TMTA Texas Music Teachers Association TMTA Tennessee Mathematics Teachers Association TMTA Truro Morlaix Twinning Association (UK) Teacher of the Year; Edwin Key, NCTM, received the Pre-Collegiate Teaching Achievement Award and Carol Leone received the Collegiate Teaching Achievement Award. Ella Louise Burba, NCTM, Edwin Key, NCTM, Frances Key, NCTM and U'Nita Sweatmon were honored as 50-year MTNA members.
