South Central Division.

As outgoing division president, I give my best wishes to the incoming officers and my gratitude to those who have made my work with the division so rewarding. Often when we accept a post, we think of the work involved; but when our work has been completed, it's the people with whom we have worked who mean the most to us.

When I became president two years ago, MTNA was in its first year of appointing competition chairs to run the division competitions. June Leondar, NCTM, Fort Worth, Texas, fulfilled this task with care and efficiency. I want to thank June for her many hours of dedicated work, along with our competition coordinators Carol Ann Bell, NCTM, composition; Gloria Johnson, NCTM, junior; Gertrude Kincade, NCTM, senior; and Carolyn Adams, young artist and chamber music.

I would also like to thank our state presidents, who presented informative reports at the Summits and the National Conferences and promptly met requests for division news articles. Thanks too, to Peggy Lewis, NCTM, who stepped in to fill a vacancy as our division director to the board. Peggy also served as Local Association Forum chair.

A very warm thank you to President-elect Ruth Pitts, NCTM, who not only fulfilled her duties as president-elect, but took minutes at every meeting. I extend a warm welcome to her as the new division president, and to Charles Jones, NCTM, as president-elect. With these fine teachers as leaders, our division is in excellent hands.

Ruth Pitts, NCTM, has served as Texas MTA president-elect, president and immediate past president. Pitts has a B.M.E. degree from Baylor University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.
